This Friday, September 15th, the Rothschild 1 elementary school hosted the presentation of the reading, writing, and theater program for everyone, as well as the launch of the 2nd edition of the “Nice Students’ Prize”.
To present the project, Jean-Luc Gagliolo, Deputy Delegate for Education and Culture at the school, was accompanied by Maude Pouyรฉ, President of the Association of Independent Booksellers of Nice. They gathered at the Rothschild school to present and distribute the various books selected by Nice’s independent bookstores to the fifth-grade students as part of the 2nd edition of the “Nice Students’ Prize”.
The city of Nice has 30,000 students enrolled in public education. 5,000 students are enrolled in private education, all within 149 schools. For this second edition of the “Nice Students’ Prize”, the bookshops Jean-Jaurรจs, Massรฉna, Les Parleuses, La Procure, Les journรฉes suspendues, and BD Fugue have come together to select four books.
The municipality created this prize to encourage young people to read and thus awaken to culture. This initiative aims to enrich literacy prevention.
The 2023 Selection
The chosen works are “Suzanne Griotte et le parc aux limaces” by Thibault Bรฉrard, “Diรฉgo aime Julie” by Sophie Grenaud, “Les mercredis de Lรฉo” by Yaรซl Hassan, and “Les Papiliers, le petit peuple des livres Tome 1” by Lรฉnia Major.
The students have six months to read and choose which book they prefer. The author who receives the most votes will be rewarded by receiving an invitation to the Nice Book Festival 2024.
Last year, during the first edition, 180 elementary and middle school students from six classes of CM1, CM2, and 6th grade chose the book by children’s author Anne-Gaรซlle Morizur “Mission kidnapping pour Erin”.
