It was in the 29th and final race of Act 7 in Nice of the Extreme Sailing Series™ that the final podium was confirmed. At the start of the day’s seven races in a light breeze of less than ten knots, The Wave, Muscat seemed untouchable with 9 wins out of the 29 races contested, but there were still three strong contenders for the other two spots on the Nice podium.
In the end, it was the Swiss team Alinghi, with 5 race wins in Nice, who finally took the advantage over the Austrians of the Red Bull Sailing Team; despite the Austrians’ 6 victories.
This final day of competition, designed on the concept of a “nautical stadium” by the beach, was contested like yesterday in light winds, providing a real contrast for the public compared to the first two days, which were contested in near capsizing conditions with 25 knots of wind.
The team representing France in Nice, the first Club by ALL4ONE, despite its lack of experience on Extreme 40 boats, signed numerous beautiful maneuvers and honorable placements in these 29 races but did not manage to win a race.
The chapter on Nice closes tonight on a battle still very open for the final title of the season, which will be contested in Florianópolis, Brazil, between November 14 and 17.
