The Handisport’IAE project aims to raise awareness among young schoolchildren in Nice about disabilities through sports practice.
During 5 months, from November to March, 11 pairings between a class and a disabled sports association from the department were carried out. During these pairings, children interact with disabled athletes and engage in sports while simulating a disability to immerse themselves in their daily lives (blindfolded, in a wheelchair, etc.).
As part of these meetings, a call for projects was launched. The participating classes created posters around the theme of the Paralympic Games, announcing the final on May 24th.
This key stage of the project allows children to materialize the moments of exchange and practice they experienced, and represent the new perspective they have on disabilities and disabled sports.
An exhibition of the best works was presented for one month at the National Sports Museum.
This day, furthermore, allows bringing together all the schoolchildren to continue their awareness thanks to the presence of sports associations. All the children from the project will have the opportunity to try 6 disabled sports (AVH, Anices, OGC Nice Fencing, US Cagnes Tennis, Handi-Leisure, and Nice Volley Ball).
