Air pollution with fine particles is concerning in the Alpes-Maritimes. This is why on Monday, August 16th, the prefecture sounded the alarm and placed the department under a “recommendation information” procedure. This measure is the first level of alert during a high concentration of pollutants in the atmosphere.
Nice is the 42nd most polluted city in the world according to a ranking by Utility Bidder. Lung cancer and myocardial infarction are among the health issues, as the concentration of fine particles degrades air quality and is responsible for many long-term cardiac and respiratory pathologies.
The association Atmo Sud is combating air pollution. To limit the effects of this phenomenon, it recommends that vulnerable people avoid major roads during peak hours and favor outings before 12 PM and after 4 PM. It is also advised to reduce outdoor sports activities and car use in favor of public transportation and eco-friendly modes of transport.
