Fiona Ferro prevails in Palermo

Latest News

The Valbonne native Fiona Ferro won the second WTA tournament of her young career. A remarkable performance since she triumphed in two sets against a rising star in women’s tennis, the Estonian Anett Kontaveit (ranked 22nd in the world).

After the Lausanne tournament in July 2019, the French Fiona Ferro achieved another high level performance this Sunday evening by winning the WTA circuit restart tournament in Palermo. She thus becomes the first player post-COVID to win a professional tournament. At 23 years old, the player affiliated with the TCL in Nice once again demonstrated great potential.
Against the tournament’s No. 2 seed, Ferro managed to set her pace in a first set that was quite easily won (6-2). While Kontaveit showed more aggression at the beginning of the second set, the Valbonne native never panicked, regaining the advantage in an end of the set where the goal was to hold her serve. The final score was 6/2 – 7/5 in 1 hour and 45 minutes of play. Ferro thus continues her impressive streak of 15 consecutive victories and is expected to be present next week in Prague to try to maintain her invincibility.
