Yesterday, late in the afternoon, the Var was struck by the outbreak of a violent fire. The flames grew over the hours despite the immediate action of the firefighters.
In response to this disaster, President Emmanuel Macron will visit the site late in the afternoon.
A fire broke out this Monday, August 16, around 5 PM near the A57 highway, close to the town of Gonfaron. Overnight, the flames continued to spread, fueled by a strong mistral wind. This Tuesday, the fire is still not extinguished and is said to have burned more than 3,500 hectares.
Emmanuel Macron, the President of the Republic, who is currently at the fort of Brégançon in the Var, will travel the 50 km to reach the town caught in the flames. There, he will meet those who have been fighting the fire since yesterday, the 900 firefighters and 120 gendarmes present on the scene, among them, 6 are slightly injured. These men battling the fire will benefit from significant aerial support with the arrival of two Dash aircraft, 4 Canadairs, two water bomber helicopters from the Alpes-Maritimes, and a reconnaissance aircraft.
