Under the leadership of Jean-Marc Giaume, Municipal Councillor delegated to the Historical Heritage, Language, and Niçoise Culture, the city of Nice initiated the first days dedicated to the transmission of the Niçoise language and culture to new generations.
Last Saturday, a partnership charter between Nice and six cross-border municipalities of the former County of Nice (Apricale, Dolceacqua, Isolabona, Périnaldo, Pigna, Rocchetta Nervina) was signed.
In this year of celebrating the 150th anniversary of the union of the County of Nice, this charter demonstrates the determination of Nice and the Italian municipalities to:
– Officially reaffirm their belonging to the County of Nice,
– Renew the historical and fundamental ties that have connected them for centuries,
– Prepare the future of upcoming generations in a territory that will once again share a common European destiny.
The cities will place at the heart of their exchange relations:
– The preservation, enhancement, and transmission of linguistic and cultural heritage,
– The development of cross-border tourism,
– Support for cooperation between the universities of Nice, Imperia, Genoa, and Turin,
– Bringing together younger generations to promote mutual understanding.
This signing was followed by the launch of the “Nice, Memories of a City” box set, which brings together the four books published by Mémoires Millénaires editions on the major stages of the history of the city of Nice: Roman era, Middle Ages, 1691, and 1860.
