JC Decaux is well established in the heart of the city of Nice, being a partner to local governments for street furniture, such as tram and bus stops.
Based on a joint idea from the RMC/BFM Association and JC Decaux, the world’s number one in street furniture has integrated an automated external defibrillator into a street furniture unit for information (MUPI). This first piece of furniture equipped with a geolocated defibrillator in France will be installed at Boulogne-Billancourt, Grand-Place, in front of 100 Boulevard Jean Jaurès. In total, 10 MUPIs will be equipped in 2011.
This first was celebrated on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the Grand-Place in Boulogne-Billancourt, in the presence of Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, Minister of Health and Sports, and Pierre-Christophe Baguet, Deputy Mayor of Boulogne-Billancourt.
More than 40,000 people die each year in France from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In France, the survival rate is 2 to 3%. It exceeds 20% in Seattle, USA, where defibrillators are widely installed in public places. In France, since a decree on May 4, 2007, anyone, even non-medical personnel, can use a defibrillator.
For Isabelle Weill, president of the RMC/BFM Association, “it is essential that local authorities install defibrillators accessible to the public because in an emergency, action must be taken quickly. After 4 minutes, each passing minute corresponds to a 10% decrease in survival chances.”
For Jean-Charles Decaux, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Co-CEO of JCDecaux, “in its relationships with local authorities, JCDecaux offers street furniture that improves the quality of urban life in the fields of transport, communication, information, and now public health. Through this first, the Group is responding to an issue of citizenship.”
For Pierre-Christophe Baguet, Deputy Mayor of Boulogne-Billancourt, “this project that places health at the heart of the city is part of a solidarity approach that shapes our desire to live together. It is a pride for all the citizens of Boulogne-Billancourt.”
