Latest News

It is this Monday, December 12th, that the first photographic expression wall is inaugurated on Avenue Désambrois. Two immense photographs by the artist Gabriel Martinez are revealed for the occasion.

This initiative reflects the city’s desire to revitalize certain neighborhoods by showcasing the work of various artists. After creating expression walls for street artists, the city of Nice offers the first photographic expression wall on Avenue Désambrois. The project aims to cover this 85-meter wall with 5 to 7 photographic panels. The first two are revealed this Monday, December 12th, and the chosen artist-photographer is Nice’s own Gabriel Martinez. With the presence of Robert Roux and Isabelle Visentin, this approach is described as echoing Nice’s candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture 2028.

Gabriel Martinez

Gabriel Martinez has been working on his série noire for over 30 years. These photographs predominantly feature female models covered in black paint, giving these works a unique character. Gabriel Martinez conducts thorough research on lighting and contrasts, which imparts a special emotion to these pieces. Mainly inspired by Pina Bausch, a German dancer and choreographer, Gabriel Martinez seeks to create a unique work on movement. Primarily focused on dance and theater, the artist-photographer emphasizes the human element above all. It is therefore fitting that Gabriel Martinez was chosen to introduce this new initiative by the city of Nice. After more than four years of waiting, this project finally comes to fruition, highlighting the work of a clearly talented artist from Nice.
