2013-02-23_14.30.59.jpg The small hands of the Côte d’Azur Racecourse had planned everything to make the first stage of the Galop a celebration for the little ones. The opening of attractions and the farm was simply canceled due to the incessant rain since Thursday in the Nice region. But this did not deter the most curious from coming to see the 7 races of the national meeting.

People arrive in dribs and drabs at Cagnes-sur-Mer. One can easily tell the occasional bettors from the die-hard ones, always with Paris-Turf, Bilto under the arm. Many bet not only on the races at Cagnes but also on the three meetings of the day: Enghien, Toulouse, and Maronas (Uruguay). But with this biting cold (5°C), people do not linger in the stands. At the end of each race, they quickly go back to warm up around a coffee at the bar.

In this type of event, one can feel the Age Pyramid. From 7 to 77 years old and possibly more, everyone enjoys coming to watch the horses. With each race, bettors line up at the electronic terminals or prefer human interaction by going to the numerous counters.

The most anticipated race was undoubtedly the Quinté + of the Prix Jacques Bouchara. It was the number 15 “Tostaky Blue” ridden by Ioritz Mendizabal in front of one of the longshots of the day, the 14, “Samyntha” at 81/1 (Pierre-Charles Boudot) and number 5, “Saint Louet” at 13/1 (Maxime Guyon). Nobody found the exact order of the Quinté combination, understandably, you’d say. Many leave the Racecourse after this Prix Bouchara. For others, there are still 4 races left to finally win the jackpot or recoup after the setbacks earlier in the afternoon.

The Prix du Conseil Général, the Policeman, the Galibier, and finally to close the day, that of Jacques Geliot. At 5:30 PM, people quietly return to their activities while trainers, jockeys, and grooms clean the horses and stables to head to other racecourses in the evening. For the Côte d’Azur Racecourse, see you this Tuesday evening for a nighttime session starting at 8 PM. The next major event will undoubtedly be on Sunday, March 10 with the Critérium de Vitesse.
