The opening of freshwater fishing on first-category rivers in the Alpes-Maritimes department takes place this Saturday, March 10, 2012. Fishing, originally an activity for sustenance, has over the years become an enjoyable and ecological pastime. It has gained prestige by approaching this practice as a way to engage in the protection and enhancement of aquatic environments and fish species.
The essential mission of anglers is to preserve this precious resource so that future generations can enjoy this exceptional heritage that our rivers, lakes, and their inhabitants — the fish — represent.
The Alpes-Maritimes Federation for Fishing and the Protection of the Aquatic Environment (FDAAPPMA), in partnership with its 20 associations, has deployed all possible means to ensure that this new fishing season in 2012 is favorable for its anglers (7,834 permits in 2010).
The fishing-nature workshops are ready to welcome children and adults, as part of the educational actions for the protection and preservation of aquatic environments. The technicians have conducted studies and fish inventories to determine the watercourses to protect and restock, and finally, the Roquebillière fish farming center is preparing the delivery of several thousand restocking surplus trout to watercourses that allow it.
What is the first category?
First-category fishing concerns the species most familiar to the general public, the salmonids, such as trout.
It begins on March 10 (the second Saturday of March) and ends on September 16, 2012 (the third Sunday of September).
In all mountain lakes located at an altitude higher than 1,800 meters, fishing is authorized from July 7 to September 16, 2012.
What about other fish?
Next will be pike fishing, which opens on May 1 and ends on December 31, 2012.
Let’s remember that it is allowed to fish for white fish all year round.
