The news is well-received, and one can only read the announcement from the prefecture with satisfaction.
We do not know whom to thank for this happy initiative, but ending the “wild west” of how taxi fares operate had become indispensable given the chaos that was harming the good name of the region: being “scammed” upon arrival is not the best welcome ticket for a visitor.
Moreover, the principle of fixed fares for airport-city routes is common practice in all major airports worldwide. The clarity of rates is its primary strength.
Adapting to international standards is merely the logical consequence of the ambition to be a tourism hallmark.
Truth be told, this decision only makes up for a delay that has lasted too long!
The Prefecture’s announcement:
Starting from March 1st, the prices of certain rides carried out by taxis
from Nice and Cannes will be fixed at departure and destination of the Nice Côte d’Azur airport.
In order to ensure better consumer information, particularly for foreign tourists, about the price to be paid for a taxi ride from and to Nice Côte d’Azur airport, the prices of certain rides will be fixed starting March 1st for taxis from Nice and Cannes:
For Nice taxis:
- from the airport to Nice city center and from Nice city center to the airport: €32
- from the airport to Cannes: €80
- from the airport to Monaco: €90
For Cannes taxis:
- from Cannes to the airport: €80
- on reservation: from the airport to Cannes: €80 and from Nice city center to the airport: €32
In the case of a prior booking (immediate or in advance), an additional fee of €4 for Nice taxis and €2 for Cannes taxis may be charged. Furthermore, this fee applies to all rides made on reservation by Nice and Cannes taxis, whether they are fixed-price or not.
