The Competition Authority has given the green light for the implementation of flat rates for taxi journeys between Paris and the airports of Roissy and Orly. According to the recommendations of the same Authority, it is expected that the same principle will be applied to taxis serving Nice airport.
It is hoped that the Mayor of Nice and his colleagues from neighboring cities will take the initiative to implement this measure, which would bring order and transparency where there currently exists a lack of clarity.
If you look at the comparative table (see below), there is still much to be done to protect travelers!
On Monday, the Competition Authority therefore issued a favorable opinion on the principle of flat rates for taxi rides between Paris and its airports. However, it will only apply to street-hailing vehicles, not to reservations. Its implementation is scheduled for March 1, 2016.
The principle of airport flat rates applies to trips between the two Parisian airports and nearby communes, or major tourist destinations such as Disneyland, as well as for journeys to or from other major city airports.
The “taxi flat rate” faced opposition from a large inter-union of drivers based on the well-known sacred principle of “don’t mess with my interests.”
These great reformists (… of others) disregard consumer protection (potential prey to be exploited) and, stubborn as they wish, do not understand that it is precisely in their interest for customers to take taxis more regularly at reasonable prices, rather than paying an exorbitant price from time to time.
