Flotilla for Palestine: a support center for Gaza opens in Nice

Latest News

On August 12, the Thousand Madleens Nice, an association of citizens condemning the genocide in Gaza and the complicity of governments, opened its doors.

After the return of the Madleen crew and the Soumoud caravan, the citizen movement Thousand Madleens Nice announced the inauguration of its premises on August 12. The group’s national slogan, โ€œa thousand Madleens for Gazaโ€, celebrates resilience, hope, and the strength of presence. The association raises awareness about the complicity of governments in the genocidal war perpetrated by Israel in Palestine.

It aims to involve citizens financially in order to build ships and thus contribute to the initiative. Several ships have sailed to break the illegal blockade on Gaza imposed by the Israeli state since 2004. Raising 100,000 euros is the immediate goal to create a flotilla and carry their message to the Gaza Strip. On August 12, 70,000 euros had already been collected.

In less than two months, five Madleens flotillas were already validated and ready to set sail. If the financial objective is achieved, more boats will be built, the citizen movement affirms. The funds collected will also be used to cover security, communication, and navigation expenses.

Support for Palestine through actions

The organization is preparing informational evenings, support concerts, fundraisers in public squares, solidarity sales, flyer distributions, demonstrations, meals, and connections with maritime actors. Announced during the evening of August 12, a drawing workshop called Draw Me a Pointu is planned at the Lympia port on August 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Various local groups have been created in France, in Bordeaux, Brest, Concarneau, Florac, Lyon, Nantes, Nice, Marseille, Montpellier, Morlaix, Paris, and more.

In September, an international flotilla will set sail for the Gaza Strip to break the blockade and open a humanitarian corridor. Among the countries participating in the international flotilla are France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Canada, and the United States. Other states will soon join in.
