For 40 years, Danny Willems has been photographing the singer Arno. Their friendship began even before the Belgian rocker became known to the public. Arno says of him that he is the only photographer he can truly “trust.”
LIFE TO THE BEAT thus presents a selection of photographs that have marked the artist’s career and the complicity of the two friends. Taken between 1970 and 2010, these photographs allow us to rediscover, through the eyes of someone close who also proves to be a photographer of great talent, the journey of an artist who has managed to impose his uniqueness.
Danny Willems’ lens successfully captures the different facets of Arno, sometimes very unexpected, with staged scenarios, his joyful and energetic exuberances, but also in moments of abandonment, of more melancholic simplicity. Over the years, Danny has been able to accompany and capture the metamorphoses of the man as well as significant events in the singer’s career.
A book “LIFE TO THE BEAT” by Danny Willems accompanies the exhibition, published by Naïve.
