Delta is currently providing more than 90 tons of food to hospitals, community food banks, and other organizations around the world to support those in need and those tirelessly working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Nice, the airline has partnered with its local catering partner, Newrest, to donate pre-packaged snacks to local hospitals and healthcare professionals to help them maintain their energy levels while caring for patients.
This initiative is part of Delta’s broader program to donate perishable and non-perishable goods to those in need, as the airline has revised its onboard and Delta Sky Club lounge service offerings to reduce physical contact points related to dining between its customers and employees.
In the United States, Delta maintains long-standing relationships with charitable organizations such as Feeding America, while the airline also supports numerous food banks worldwide, and its employees help repackage more than 900 tons of food per year.
The airline, which has served Nice for nearly 35 years with a nonstop route between the city and New York-JFK, works in partnership with several local charities, including the Ligue du Cancer.
“Caring for the communities in which we live and work is one of our company’s core values, and it has never been more important than during this crisis,” says Shane Spyak, Vice President of Sales for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India at Delta. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many healthcare professionals fighting COVID-19 and are grateful for their dedication.”
Delta employees also remember their colleagues by sending fresh “Flight Fuel” meals to our reservation centers to support the teams handling the unprecedented number of customers needing to change their flights due to the global pandemic.
In its hometown of Atlanta, Delta is also working with Linton Hopkins, one of its award-winning chefs and longtime partners, to provide trays and packaging for food distribution. Hopkins’ team delivers more than 5,000 meals per week to Atlanta communities, including first responders at Emory Hospital in Atlanta.
These food donations are a new illustration of the remarkable Delta spirit shown by the airline’s teams during the current pandemic. In March, Delta began offering free flights to healthcare professionals working on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis and mobilized its in-flight equipment subsidiary to manufacture face shields to protect hospital staff.
