Football: A Successful First Day for the Selecioun

Latest News

The County of Nice and the Selecioun organized their first-ever day at the Complexe de la Plaine du Var. On the field, the Nice selection won 4-2, and the “pitchouns” of OGC Nice lifted the U11 trophy.

Sun, smiles, goals, and festivities. The recipe worked perfectly for a day under the aegis of the County of Nice. On the synthetic field usually reserved for the U17 and U19 of the Gym, the under-11 youngsters played from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. First, the group matches up to the midday break, then the final stage before the main match. And it’s OGC Nice that won this first edition with a 1-0 score against Entente Tourette-Levens.

“Weekend tournaments and holidays, I mostly remember the victories but also the great times with friends,” smiled Alexy Bosetti, the guest of honor of the day who played a few minutes with the Selecioun.

The highlight of the day was then the turn of the first home match of the Selecioun, led by the trio of Gioria-Mattio-Cubilier. An hour before kickoff, a whole team of supporters prepared the celebrations in the stands. Nice flags, banners, and confetti were part of the program to celebrate the County of Nice team before their departure for the ConIFA Euro in mid-June in Debrecen, Hungary. At the moment of the anthem, the 400 seats were covered with thousands of confetti with the backdrop of red flares from the southern brigade. And it was Philippe Bianchi, father of Jules Bianchi, in a coma since his accident in October at the Suzuka GP, who kicked off the match in front of a banner “Forza Jules, JB 17” held by the players of the Selecioun.

“It’s my first match with this team, we need to be serious because we’re here to win and prepare well for the Euro. I won’t be there as I’ll be on vacation and starting preparations, but I’ll follow them closely,” explained the Nice forward an hour before the match.

The Selecioun, in front of more than 600 people, after a complicated start, ultimately claimed a 4-2 victory thanks to goals from Ako, Verger, Minasi, and Jaziri. Three weeks ahead of the big event, the Nice team seems ready for a historic double.
