This Sunday, the Aiglons traveled to FC Nantes’ field for the 8th day of Ligue 1. Despite a good performance, the Gym had to settle for a draw (1-1).
Back to Ligue 1 for the Gym! After an international break, OGC Nice began at Nantes, the first match of a packed schedule awaiting the Aiglons in the coming weeks. Franck Haise‘s players wanted to continue their good run in the championship (two wins and two draws in the last four Ligue 1 games). But for this match, the Nice coach had to once again manage without several key players. Announced as doubtful, Mohamed-Ali Cho and Youssouf Ndayishimiye did not make the trip to Nantes. Both men stayed behind for treatment on the French Riviera.
In terms of lineup, Antoine Mendy and Mohamed Abdelmonem were reintroduced into the back three. Pablo Rosario made his return to the midfield. Finally, Youssoufa Moukoko was paired with Evann Guessand and Jérémie Boga in attack.
Impressive but Inefficient Niçois
The Niçois had a good start to the match, highlighted by this first opportunity from Evann Guessand, which was ultimately blocked by the opposing goalkeeper. Gradually, the balance between the two teams evened out. A true showdown began on the Beaujoire field. Pablo Rosario‘s teammates were more threatening in this first half.
However, the Aiglons lacked precision to capitalize on this dominance. Jérémie Boga was blocked at the last moment by Zézé, while Youssoufa Moukoko‘s shot ended up in the side netting and Guessand‘s shot was stopped by Alban Lafont. Facing a struggling opponent, the Gym had chances but failed to capitalize!
A Frustrating Draw and Regrets for the Gym
More cautious in the second half, the Aiglons couldn’t break through the Nantes defense. The Canaries counter-attacked, causing some scares for the Nice defense in certain situations. And in the end, Nice was punished for its inefficiency! Matthis Abline, on the rebound of a cross, gave Marcin Bulka no chance (0-1)! It was a big blow for the Niçois, who had been dominating the play.
But the Niçois responded immediately. Following a good collective movement, Evann Guessand finally beat the opposing goalkeeper (1-1). Logically, OGC Nice was back in the match. The Aiglons pushed to secure the three points. The score remained unchanged, and Marcin Bulka had to intervene twice in injury time to keep the draw point.
The next match for OGC Nice is this Thursday, October 24, as the Aiglons will travel to Ferencvaros for the 3rd day of the Europa League. The kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
