Football: The 2019 Women’s World Cup promotional tour stops in Nice

Latest News

In less than two years, France will host for the first time the largest international women’s football competition: the FIFA Women’s World Cup, 8th edition, which will take place from June 7 to July 7.

It will be a competition that celebrates the joy and spirit of the 24 participating teams.

The French Football Federation, the organizing body, intends to use it as a lever for developing this discipline and increasing the number of clubs and players, which since 2011 has already increased 2.5 times (to 165,000 registered players in 2016/17 from 82,000 in 2010/11) and aims to reach 200,000 by 2020.

To promote the event, a tour of the host cities has been organized to engage local football enthusiasts.

Yesterday, the small caravan with the trophy on display was in Nice, welcomed by Christian Estrosi and his colleagues.

It was an opportunity for the Mayor of Nice, an indefatigable promoter of his city, to showcase the state of Nice sports and particularly football, which he supports by building or modernizing facilities and granting generous funding to clubs or event organizers.

In the same vein, Brigitte Henriques, Vice-President of the FFF, highlighted the importance of the “sport-social-diversity” trio and expressed the hope that the French edition would surpass the 1 billion viewer mark, following the 750 million who watched the previous edition.

The final word goes to Fatma Samoura, FIFAโ€™s Secretary General, who mentioned the goal of having 60 million female players by 2025.
