For FACE 06, the start of the school year will be more expensive for Nice students.

In this 2016-2017 academic year, the Federation of Student Associations and Corporations of Alpes-Maritimes (FACE 06) notes in a statement an increase in expenses for students in the Alpes-Maritimes (+5.74%) after a year of decline.

A student from the Côte d’Azur will have to spend an average of €138.17 more than last year to cover all of their back-to-school expenses.

With this 5.74% increase, the back-to-school cost index is rising again.

This increase is primarily due to the cost of housing, as in Nice, a studio costs on average €86 more (+16.68%) than in 2015.

The government’s student rental deposit assistance scheme (CLE) cannot apply in the Alpes-Maritimes, as the majority of the rents exceed the legal application ceiling (€500).

Another increase due to inflation: the costs of purchasing educational materials have risen by an average of 12.30%.

However, the rise in back-to-school costs is limited by the freezing of certain “institutional” expenses: thanks to the efforts of our FAGE (Federation of General Student Assemblies) representatives, university registration fees will not increase this year. Thanks to our representatives’ actions, the price of the university dining hall meal tickets will also not rise this year.

FACE 06, for its part, continues its commitment to students in the Alpes-Maritimes, notably through its “Apparté” housing aid plan, which allows students to find accommodation for significantly below-average rent (€280 for a 35 m² one-bedroom apartment).

Its social and solidarity grocery store “Agoraé,” which allows over a hundred beneficiaries to shop at prices 80% lower than the market rate, will celebrate its fifth anniversary in February.

These aids help students to continue their university studies in the most favorable conditions.
