In March, the University of Nice invited Diego Fusaro, a theorist of Italy’s Five Star populist movement, but backtracked due to the protest it sparked and canceled his visit.
The University of Nice is repeating this by inviting, this Tuesday, Jean Bricmont, a notorious conspiracy theorist and defender of Dieudonné and several Holocaust deniers in the name of freedom of expression.
Universities, more than any other institutions, are required to adhere to a minimum standard of ethics in the selection of guests to whom they give a platform in front of our students.
And even if his talk addresses a scientific topic rather than his political theories, inviting Jean Bricmont sends a troubling signal to our youth.
Consequently, we are requesting explanations from the University of Nice and calling on them to act responsibly.
