Tuesday evening saw the sixth edition of the Night of Shorts and Sport take place at the Grand Château de Valrose theater. An evening dedicated to the screening of short films about sport organized by students from the Master 1 Territorial Development through Sport program at the Université Côte d’Azur.

Already strengthened by the success of its five previous editions, The Night of Shorts and Sport has established itself as an unmissable event for sports and 7th art enthusiasts. This evening, organized by students from the Master 1 Sport Management program (specializing in Territorial Development through Sport), aims to promote sport and the local area through cinema. The event also aims to highlight the STAPS (Science and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities) department, showcasing its “expertise,” “rigor,” and “creativity.” This year, regional athletes were honored. “We wanted to show the importance of regional athletes, especially those of a high level who have been able to compete in the Olympics and world championships,” explains Julie Gérard, the event’s organizer. The event is also intended to be a moment for exchange and sharing between professionals, students, and partners.

The Progress of the Night of Shorts and Sport

The evening began at 6 PM with the reception of guests who could admire various objects belonging to regional athletes. Among them were items from the event’s patrons, including the paddle of Emilie Fer (gold medalist at the 2012 Olympics) and the wheelchair of Christophe Carlier. The event continued with the screening of six short films about lesser-known disciplines.

Open water swimming started the evening, represented by Marc-Antoine Olivier (2016 Olympic bronze medalist). The screening then moved on to other disciplines. Athletics was represented by Marielle Massa (volunteer on the board of Nice Côte d’Azur Athletics), MMA with Joe Callea, professional boxer (11-3), and E-Sport (electronic sports) led by Thibault Schall, founder of the first e-sport club in Nice (L’ASBTP eSport). The short film screening concluded with triathlon illustrated by Léo Bergère (2024 Olympic bronze medalist) and mountain biking with Yannis Pelé.

The Night of Shorts and Sport concluded with a buffet and beverage service, where guests could interact with the filmmakers and athletes. Since its inception in 2018, The Night of Shorts and Sport has continued to evolve with each edition. Today, it has become indispensable to cultural life in Nice.
