Formula 2: Shortened learning for Théo Pourchaire

Latest News

The second race of the weekend was cut short for the rookie in Formula 2. Théo Pourchaire, victim of an issue on track, in his pink car only completed a few more laps in his quest to gain experience.

Once again aggressive at the start, Théo Pourchaire gained four places from the get-go! Battling with yesterday’s feature race winner, Felipe Drugovich, the F2 newcomer held his ground and managed to keep pace with the Brazilian ahead of him in 14th position. Suddenly, the driver from the Alpes-Maritimes lost three positions, probably due to a small error on track. Just behind his teammate, he gradually clawed back time to come within 0.8 seconds.

Unfortunately, at the end of the main straight starting the 6th lap, the driver from Grasse encountered a technical problem with his modest HWA. Probably when he pressed the brake, the fire extinguisher in his single-seater went off in his cockpit, forcing him to stop at the side of the track, completely soaked. It was impossible to continue due to regulations that require a functioning fire extinguisher in the car to be allowed to race.

This misfortune was also experienced by Mick Schumacher, the current championship leader, during a Grand Prix earlier this season. Nevertheless, despite this incident, the driver of car No. 17 made a successful debut in this gateway championship to Formula 1, aiming to secure a seat to compete in the entire championship next season!

Ultimately, it was Russian driver Robert Shwartzman who emerged victorious in this sprint race, while our local driver’s teammate finished in a respectable 12th place.

Join us next weekend for the final round of this championship and hopefully the first points in the category for Théo.
