The Cavigal Nice Lutte 06 team participated in the senior French Sambo championships held in Paris over the weekend of February 5 and 6, 2011. The Nice club achieved a feat with four podiums, including a gold medal brought home by Anthony Lobbrecht.
Sambo is a martial art originating from Russia, combining judo and wrestling. Sport Sambo is affiliated with the French Wrestling Federation and has been developing strongly for several years, with many judokas and wrestlers participating in these championships.
In very high-level French championships, with many top-level judokas and wrestlers participating, Anthony Lobbrecht, the standard bearer of the Nice colors and reigning French champion, won the competition in his 62-kilogram category for the fourth year. He thus confirmed his participation in the senior European championships in mid-May 2011. In the same category, Gregory Deya secured 3rd place. In the 74-kilogram category, Johann Blanc narrowly lost in the semi-finals against the future winner but earned 3rd place in a category that promised tough competition. In the 84-kilogram category, Arnaud Blanc lost due to a warning against Raina, the reigning champion, and also earned a well-deserved bronze medal.
Too tough for Jean Michel Deya and Fabien Fornell
Jean Michel Deya and Fabien Fornell did not manage to secure a podium finish in a very strong 68-kilogram category, which had 30 participants.
The Cavigal Nice Lutte 06 club achieved a great result overall. Let’s also recall the 5th place of Jonathan Thiam at Cristo lutte in the 60-kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling category, the previous weekend.
The next event for the Nice wrestlers is scheduled for February 12 and 13 in Lyon, for the French youth and cadet Greco-Roman wrestling championships.
