It was the queen stage of these 4 Days of Dunkirk. Between Roubaix and Cassel, the road was fraught with obstacles. Unfortunately, Team Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur suffered the consequences.
The toll was heavy at the end of the 187 km that comprised this 5th stage of the Four Days of Dunkirk. Four riders were missing when returning to the bus this evening. The blame lay with the different cobbled sectors and climbs that exhausted the men of Team Nice Métropole Côte d’Azur. Thus, we note the withdrawals of Axel Narbonne Zuccarelli, Andrea Mifsud, Paul Hennequin, and Jean-Louis Le Ny. On his part, Damien Girard, whom we often saw at the front, narrowly escaped as he finished in last place, 22 minutes behind the day’s winner Per Strand Hagenes (Jumbo-Visma). The only satisfaction on the Azuréen side was the presence of Jonathan Couanon in the peloton at the finish. The Nice native managed to conquer the various climbs and cobbled sectors around Rue du Tambour.
Tomorrow is the last day of racing with only three Aiglons at the start.
