At a time when the global economy has become a metropolitan economy, it is about building a true “metropolitan alliance” with the ambition of accelerating innovation capacity, promoting wealth creation, and enabling harmonious and cohesive economic development of territories.
The objective? Positioning metropolises in a global competition and enabling them to play a leading role in innovation and recognizing emerging trends within the new major regions is the real challenge of tomorrow.
As the reform of local governments has strengthened the competencies of Metropolises in many areas, the ACCIM* has sought to reinforce the links and modes of cooperation that bring them closer to major French metropolises, paying particular attention to the needs of businesses.
Playing collectively thus becomes a major imperative to improve the economic competitiveness of territories, develop job creation, enhance economic and tourist attractiveness, and allow metropolitan influence on a European level while embracing solidarity with all surrounding territories.
By signing this declaration, the 12 Presidents of Metropolises and 13 Presidents of Metropolitan Chambers of Commerce are committed to developing coordinated economic development strategies and implementing co-construction on these major economic orientations.
Four major areas of contractualization have been defined: 1. strengthening the attractiveness and economic influence of metropolises in the European and global arena; 2. improving the connection of metropolises to the rest of the world; 3. succeeding in the challenge of innovation, a growth and jobs accelerator; 4. playing as a team internationally.
A major annual event was also agreed upon by all participants: the Economic Conference of Metropolises to bring forth successful initiatives and share experiences.
