Francis Kalifat was elected President of the CRIF* during the institution’s general assembly. He succeeds Roger Cukierman, who will complete his term on June 29, 2016.
For about twenty years, since the influx of repatriates from North Africa to the French Riviera, the Jewish community in the Alpes-Maritimes has exceeded 30,000 people, with Jewish religious and cultural centers multiplying in the major coastal cities without any integration issues.
The new president of the CRIF stated his desire for “a united, pluralistic CRIF, resolutely committed to all battles against anti-Semitism and racism and strongly invested in promoting living together.”
He reaffirmed his desire to maintain the political independence of the CRIF and his refusal of any possible dialogue with the extreme left as well as with the National Front.
“My mandate will be one of zero tolerance towards all forms of anti-Jewish hatred, from the most visible to the most insidious, such as that carried by anti-Zionism.”
