In the context of the 134th Nice Carnival, schoolchildren from Saint Petersburg and Nice drew their vision of space.
Deputy Mayor Rudy Salles wanted to congratulate them.
Cosmonauts, rockets, and confetti… The drawing competition sparked the imagination of these students aged 6 to 10. It is a little away from the Carnival festivities, in the Raoul Mille library, that this exhibition named “Children Draw the Nice Carnival 2018, King of Space” is presented.
For this 2nd edition, 60 drawings have been selected, with 30 made by Niรงois children and 30 by those from Saint Petersburg. Representations of space filled with “fantasy and imagination,” noted the event coordinator Ekaterina Ovcthinnikova.
Rudy Salles awarded diplomas to these “budding artists,” under the applause of their peers and teachers. Throughout the festivities, these works will be on display in this library, located inside the Gare du Sud. They are available for viewing until March 3rd, before being sent to a museum in Saint Petersburg.
“Cross-view” between Nice and Saint Petersburg
The exhibition is also held to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the twinning between these two cities. It is an opportunity for students from the Russian bilingual section of the Ronchese school in Nice and the Preobrajenie art studio to share their vision of the Nice Carnival and space. This cultural exchange has given them “an extraordinary open-mindedness.”
Ekaterina Ovcthinnikova, coordinator and Russian teacher at the Ronchese primary school, finds the mix of all these drawings interesting: “It is a cross-view between a country where the carnival does not exist but where people have heard a lot about it and those who experience it every year.”
