Two days after his election to the head of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, François de Canson announces an emergency protocol to address the difficulties of high school students and educational communities. A general audit of the establishments is planned and an envelope of 6 million euros will be submitted to a vote by elected officials on October 23.

High schools are the first priority of the new president of the South Region. This Wednesday, October 14, François de Canson announced the launch of a « Regional Emergency Protocol », following a visit to the Empéri high school in Salon-de-Provence, which has suffered damage. Accompanied by Nicolas Isnard, the president of the Region aims to provide answers to the difficulties encountered by students and staff in the establishments.

Several measures must be implemented immediately, while additional financial resources will be proposed at the next plenary assembly.

An audit of high schools and an envelope of 6 million euros

Among the first measures is the introduction of “Call High Schools,” a platform intended for students, parents, teachers and regional staff. Accessible online, the system allows anonymous reporting of difficulties encountered and submission of proposals to the community. The platform is available at maregionsud.fr/allolycees.

A general audit will also be conducted in high schools in the region, establishment by establishment. Departmental intervention brigades will supplement this system in order to respond to technical emergencies.

The Region also plans measures to address damage in the establishments. Systematic support will be provided to heads of establishment who file complaints. The community also announces the provision of 10,000 hours of community service in high schools to the Justice system, by court order.

The financial component will be presented on October 23. On that date, François de Canson will propose to regional elected officials an emergency envelope of 6 million euros. The funds will be allocated primarily to the repair of damage and the renovation of restrooms, needs expressed by high school students. Measures aimed at improving the thermal comfort of buildings, in summer and in winter, will also be presented.

Consultation must also continue in the coming days. On October 20, an extraordinary meeting will bring together the 300 supervisors of the 4,000 regional staff working in high schools to identify priority needs. On October 24, over 200 young people will participate in the Regional Youth Parliament to be involved in future decisions.

For the beginning of his term, François de Canson wants to defend an approach that combines listening to students and firmness in the face of damage: « When high school students speak to us, we must listen to them and provide them with concrete answers. This is the meaning of my commitment: to see, listen and act. In 48 hours, we have implemented the first measures to respond to the emergencies of our establishments. But understanding anger is not excusing disorder. There is no contradiction between listening and firmness, and every euro dedicated to repairing damage is a euro that cannot be invested elsewhere », declared the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region.
