Frederique Gregoire on the “Royal” path in Nice

Woman, mother, lawyer, city councilorโ€”if Frรฉdรฉrique Grรฉgoire is not accumulating mandates, she certainly carries her multiple roles with talent and conviction.

She entered politics in the 90s and made the leap from supporter to member in 1993, eventually being elected as part of the Nice Plurielle list in the last Nice municipal elections of 2001.

The first socialist elected to join the support committee for Sรฉgolรจne Royal, she can easily envision a woman, this woman, as a candidate for the next presidential election.

Nice Premiรจre visited Maรฎtre Grรฉgoire on her “Royal” path.

Nice Premiรจre: Frรฉdรฉrique Grรฉgoire, could you introduce yourself to the readers of Nice Premiรจre?

I am 36 years old, married, and the mother of a little girl, Zoรฉ, who is 8 years old.

I have been practicing as a lawyer at the Bar of NICE since 1998.

My political engagement dates back a long time. In 1990, I joined the CONVAINCRE clubs, friends of Michel ROCARD, then Prime Minister.

It was following the left’s defeat in the 1993 legislative elections that I joined the Socialist Party. I moved from being a supporter to an activist.

With the Socialist Party, I have experienced a series of sorrows and joys: Jospinโ€™s defeat in 1995, his victory in the 1997 legislative elections, the terrible April 21, 2002, and finally our victories in 2004 in regional, cantonal, and European elections.

In 2001, I was elected to the Nice City Council on the opposition list named โ€œNice Plurielleโ€.

Nice Premiรจre: What are your functions within the Nice Plurielle municipal councilors?

There is no division of responsibilities among the different elected officials of NICE PLURIELLE. Each intervenes according to their interests and the information they have gathered on each issue.

Among us, freedom is the rule.

Every councilor specializes in one area of the city. Naturally, I am responsible for the eastern districts in connection with the two General Councilors, Marc CONCAS, and Patrick ALLEMAND.

Together with them, I meet all the merchants affected by the tramway works in the NICE CENTRE and NICE EAST sectors, fortified by the experience I gained from a study trip to the tramway system in BORDEAUX.

I am also a member of the Commission for the Sale of Municipal Properties of the City of NICE.

Since November 2005, I have been a member of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Social Action Center of the City of NICE, which manages nursing homes, housing facilities, day and night shelters for disadvantaged people, and Housing and Social Reinsertion Centersโ€ฆ

Nice Premiรจre: Any projects underway in the scope of your duties?

All files are urgent and important, though I do not lose sight of the priorities: social housing, transportation and mobility, the Grand Stadium, the Gare du Sud…

It’s a daily battle.

For instance, within the municipal property sales commission, I am desperately trying to get the PEYRAT team to adopt similar measures to those implemented by the VALBONNE Town Hall regarding housing for young workers.

Rather than auctioning off apartments owned by the city, they should be sold to young couples at a more attractive price, subjecting them to the condition of occupying the premises without being able to sell them for a period of 10 to 15 yearsโ€ฆ except back to the municipality.

This measure would help combat real estate speculation and solve the housing problem.

However, it is true that this is a left-wing measureโ€ฆ
