Frédérique Nalbandian with lost hollow

Latest News

Material was the focus of Frédérique Nalbandian’s initial plastic research and continues to be the driving force behind her artistic concerns today.

The artist attempts, with underlying derision, to establish a poetics around existence, expressing its body (organism), emptiness, precariousness, memory, and terminus.

Frédérique Nalbandian uses three recurring materials: plaster, soap, and wax (or paraffin), with which she maintains an experimental and direct relationship. These substances are manipulated using different techniques: casting (negative), modeling, assembling, building. They can also be used for in situ work.

The exhibition presented at the Ponchettes Gallery in Nice from February 1 to March 26, 2006, led the artist to create a setting reminiscent of a “cathedral and its nave”: two pieces were installed using nets, soap, and projections of cement and plaster. Some of the works exhibited were made especially for the exhibition.

Frédérique Nalbandian lives and works in Nice in one of the municipal artist workshops at the Halle Spada.
