This Thursday afternoon, the Departmental Union of Firefighters of the Alpes-Maritimes launched its prevention campaign on road safety. The hashtag #LibérezLaRoute was created to raise awareness among motorists about facilitating access and reducing the travel time for urgent transport by the department’s firefighters.
The president of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles Ginésy, alongside LR deputy Eric Ciotti, attended the launch ceremony of this awareness campaign. The realization that the interventions by firefighters, as well as other public emergency services, were too slow highlighted a real problem to the department. Firefighters intervene 120,000 times a year, approximately once every four minutes.
Video clips have been produced by professionals to raise public awareness about this campaign and will soon be broadcast on television and radio. As partners of this project, Philippe Bianchi, father of the late Formula 1 driver Jules Bianchi, and driver Romain Grosjean are involved. The awareness campaign coincides with the French Grand Prix at Le Castellet, providing an opportunity to convey an important message through professionals.
Eric Ciotti emphasized the importance of broadcasting this campaign widely, thereby helping to reduce firefighters’ travel time during emergencies. He specifically mentioned the rejection of a proposed law to the government. Eric Ciotti wanted to introduce free tolls for firefighters. He expressed being “shocked” by this refusal. The #LibérezLaRoute campaign aims to be disseminated nationally, so that motorists adopt the right behaviors when an emergency vehicle appears in their rear-view mirror.
