The gathering of democrats has helped avoid the worst. The election of Emmanuel Macron signifies the defeat of the party of hate and exclusion in a context of economic, social, and moral crisis favorable to the rise of populism.
Congratulations to the new president, and let us wish him a term, in a peaceful France, that is capable of meeting the many challenges of a dangerous world and a wavering society.
But nothing is guaranteed. The famous glass ceiling, which with each election appears increasingly fragile, has held once again, but it would be irresponsible not to understand that it is urgent to reinforce the foundations of our Republic – Liberty, Equality, Fraternity, Secularism – to avoid the irreparable.
Hence the need to urgently and strongly implement the presidential project. For this, the step of the legislative elections is crucial. A broad assembly of all transformative forces that align with the main lines of this project is imperative to form a solid and lasting majority.
In our department, the conjunction of electoral power dynamics means that, divided and in competition, these forces will be ruthlessly eliminated from the first round.
That is why, as the president of the PRG 06 and PACA, I am calling on the leaders of En Marche!, the Socialist Party, the Democratic Front, and the MODEM to find ways to be stronger together during this legislative election by preventing a proliferation of candidacies that would eliminate any chance of having parliamentarians from the Alpes-Maritimes in the new presidential majority.
