A few days after the presentation of the draft law on separatism and republican principles, the Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, visited Nice.
After visiting a middle school in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, during which an exchange took place, Gabriel Attal was at the social center “La Ruche,” run by the association “La Semeuse,” to meet with the leaders of the associative movement in the department. This visit highlights the importance of education and associative life, two major pillars of the draft law, for strengthening the Republic and its principles.
As a reminder, this draft law against separatism, renamed “the draft law reinforcing respect for the principles of the Republic,” was expanded following the attack on Samuel Paty. It aims to address offenses against hate in six major areas:
– Protection of public service
– Transparency in the practice of religion
– Combating cyberbullying
– Education, particularly the regulation of schools
– Dignity and equality for all
– Regulation of associations
This last point was the focus of the second visit. About thirty representatives from cultural and sports associations had the opportunity to speak to the Government spokesperson to explain their work. This support revolves around transmitting values such as respect, open-mindedness, engagement, and solidarity. “In all the work being done by the Government at the moment in fighting separatism, especially in promoting the principles of the Republic, you are an essential pillar of this work,” said Gabriel Attal, thanking the association members present. “The association allows for creating connections, transmitting education about citizenship while allowing thousands of young and not-so-young people to thrive in the values of the Republic through sports, culture, debate, and social ties. We obviously need this action everywhere on the territory in our neighborhoods as it allows the Republic, its values, and republican principles to remain present and especially alive in the service of our fellow citizens.”
