The idea was good – to provide skateboarders with a dedicated activity space. Unfortunately, the implementation is proving to be more than negative and is a source of concern for local residents and neighborhood dwellers.
The warning from opposition municipal councilor Gäel Nofri should interest the competent municipal authorities for the rapid implementation of appropriate measures.
Gaël Nofri brings the issue to the table: “As I explained several times during the electoral campaign, I consider that the skatepark, Severine Christ-Thomas, in Nice-Nord represents both a serious nuisance for the neighborhood and a lawless area.
This phenomenon is explained by a misjudgment from the moment of its construction: this infrastructure is too close to homes but also too isolated to be easily monitored. These difficulties are further exacerbated by disastrous site management: initially with a private security company, then with mediators with no conclusive effect… and now nothing but a municipal guard, facing violence, gang systems, and drug trafficking all alone!
The use of video surveillance, coupled with the site management by sports associations qualified to supervise youth, seems today to be the only solution to a problem that could undoubtedly have been avoided with a bit of forethought.”
