After experiencing a particularly turbulent transition at the Town Hall of Saint-Martin Vésubie, which he presided over for 25 years, Gaston Franco was not re-appointed on the last European list despite having left the image of a very active and appreciated deputy.
Visibly very disappointed by the recent results and outraged by the latest scandals shaking the UMP, Gaston Franco has decided to put an end to his political life. He has just submitted his resignation from his last position as Regional Councilor to Michel Vauzelle. He also sent his resignation from the UMP to Christian Estrosi.
This is the end of a long career that began professionally in 1971 alongside Francis Palmero, in the General Council as Director of the Cabinet. Director of tourism for the city of Nice for 20 years, with Jacques Médecin, he joined the Departmental Assembly in 1985 in the canton of Saint-Martin Vésubie, where he became Mayor in 1989. Elected French Deputy in 1993, he saw the dissolution of 1997 as a major political mistake by the moderate right. Finally, he was elected to the European Parliament in June 2009.
He will be remembered as a passionate, committed, direct, and straightforward elected official, with an easy and pleasant manner. And, in this world of ethics and morals, an official who has never been troubled by justice. Perhaps a good example to follow, after all…
