This Monday, the new Minister of the Interior arrived in Nice. After a meeting with Christian Estrosi and an encounter with internal security forces, he is set to attend a commemoration.

At 4:30 PM, Gérald Darmanin had an appointment at Villa Masséna. However, he will only arrive about 45 minutes later due to a delay accumulated earlier in the day, though slightly caught up. Once there, the Minister of the Interior wastes no time, knowing why he is here today: to pay tribute to the victims of the July 14, 2016 attack that claimed the lives of 86 people.

Families of some victims were present to exchange a few words with the minister. Once this was done, he observed a minute of silence in front of the victims’ memorial. Then, he wrote a few lines in the guestbook. The silence lifted just before he left, as the minister once again exchanged some words with family members. After that, Gérald Darmanin had to leave. The ministerial visit was expected to conclude with a visit to the gendarmerie brigade of the village of Levens, near Nice.
