Latest News

On Thursday, July 25, the opening of the exhibition Beyond Reality took place at Lympia Departmental Cultural Space. This time, international photographer Gérard Rancinan and renowned author Caroline Gaudriault were in the spotlight. They captivated the audience with their unique artistic collaboration.

The former prison, now an exhibition space, has been hosting around thirty photographic paintings and writing installations since July 20. Gérard Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault have worked worldwide. But it’s in Nice, at the Lympia Departmental Cultural Space, that they reunite to share their works and artistic vision.

Beyond Reality is an art exploring the surreal universe and projecting contemporary issues of our society. With one goal: to create a multidimensional dialogue and offer interactions that enrich the audience’s experience.

Between History and Modernity

Located at the port of Nice, the ceremony begins at sunset with various speeches. The evening continues with jazz notes. The soft music floated in the air, adding elegance to the evening. While some headed for the aperitif, a first group started the tour.

From the moment guests enter the Lympia Cultural Space, they are enveloped in a sophisticated atmosphere. The walls of the former prison, laden with history, contrasted beautifully with the modernity of the exhibited works. The dim lighting, in addition to adding charm, accentuated the details of the photographs and writings. Eyes were riveted on the artworks. The guided tour, accompanied by explanations, attracted great attention.

One Visit, Many Chapters

Organized into four chapters, the two artists tackle the question of the relationship with reality. Each room tells a story: “This journey we offer is one of a humanity that constantly seeks ways to avoid confronting reality too closely” states Carole Gaudriault.

Each chapter has a name and reflects something. The paintings in Metamorphosis, Chapter One, represent the questioning of the relationship between time and society. The second chapter, The Artists, presents the transformation of our society with portraits of Yan-Pei-Ming, Franko B, and Damien Hirst. Followed by Chapter III, The Destiny of Men, which illustrates an imaginary tale, beliefs, and fictions. Before ending with The Hybrids, the last chapter, discussing humanity’s upcoming evolutions.

A Profound Message

Beyond Reality is a remarkable exhibition due to the depth and richness of the works. Gérard Rancinan and Caroline Gaudriault, through their art, succeeded in transporting the audience on a surreal journey while posing crucial questions about our current society.

An exhibition not to be missed. It awaits you at the Lympia Departmental Cultural Space, now through October 13, 2024.
