Following the announcement of the creation of a “Green Fund,” Christian Estrosi wished to write to the Prime Minister to discuss the territory’s proposals and quickly learn about the implementation methods and schedule for these new resources.
While the summer of 2022 demonstrated that heat records, long periods of water stress, and the occurrence of devastating storm phenomena are no longer exceptions but indeed the new climate norms. Elisabeth Borne, Prime Minister, announced the creation of a “Green Fund” to support ecological transition projects undertaken by local authorities with a budget of 1.5 billion euros.
Thus, the mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, sent a letter to the Prime Minister in which he expresses his full support for this initiative, but also the urgency of providing powerful and tailored responses to each territory.
“The ‘Green Fund’ project is fully in line with the directions taken by the City of Nice and the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis for 14 years, with a multi-annual investment program aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by -55% by 2030, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. New financial means will allow us to accelerate further, while always ensuring the protection of our economic strengths and the purchasing power of the residents.”
The Major Priorities of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis Climate Plan
- The implementation of a vast plan for the deployment of new decarbonized transport lines.
- The energy renovation of public and private buildings and the construction of urban renewable thermal networks at controlled rates.
- The fight against urban heat islands with the development of 70 hectares of green spaces with open ground and an additional 280,000 tree plantings in Nice by the end of 2025.
- The prudent management of water resources through plans to modernize our equipment and networks.
“The environmental emergency requires us to quickly know the methods and schedule for the implementation of the ‘Green Fund,’ for which the City of Nice and the Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis are already ready to apply.”
