After several years of hard work and preparation, the application for the Promenade des Anglais to UNESCO has finally been made official.
The work of Jean-Jacques Aillagon’s team is beginning to bear fruit: the Minister of Culture has adopted the recommendations of the appointed commission of experts and has accepted the application of the Promenade des Anglais, now renamed “Nice, a New City Born of Tourism or the Invention of the Riviera,” which developed from the late 18th century for inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The duo of Christian Estrosi, President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, President of the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, and Philippe Pradal, Mayor of Nice, expressed their satisfaction:
“We welcome this decision with great satisfaction. We want to express our emotion at the success of this essential step.”
The path is still long, but it is now open to finalize the file that will serve as the basis for the official application to UNESCO.
