Whether in the stands of Le Ray or in the excellent forum of the red and black club, questions are increasingly being asked on a singular topic: Who should be the guardian angel of the Nice goals?
Currently, Damien Grégorini manages the matches in Ligue 1 while his deputy, Hugo Lloris, has propelled the eagles into the final of the League Cup against AS Nancy Lorraine at the prestigious Stade de France.
First question: Why doesn’t Hugo Lloris replace Damien Grégorini?
Response: It’s a crucial decision that every Ligue 1 coach, like those of all French teams, must make in an emergency. It does not seem that there is currently an urgent need for this position. Changing a goalkeeper is a significant decision in the life of a team, and it’s not certain that this is what the red and black house needs most in this period of euphoric results.
Second question: Will the League Cup final be the next match played by Lloris?
Response: Knowing and acknowledging the technical skills of Frédéric Antonetti, it seems unlikely that Hugo Lloris’s next match will be the final against Nancy. That does not mean it will involve replacing Damien Grégorini, either!
Third question: What would Lloris have done differently from Grégorini in the Nice goals?
Response: Needless, no one can ever answer that. These are two goalkeepers each possessing qualities and flaws, like any human being, and while it’s certain Damien Grégorini could improve his effectiveness off his line, Hugo Lloris is not always faultless on his line. What is certain, however, is that the recent performances of the young Nice star are making him quite an impressive prospect, while the current incumbent’s performance was not the brightest at Le Mans.
In short, Frédéric Antonetti’s choice must not be simple, but it would be hard to criticize a job that has transformed a group into a true flagship team of the French first league.
Finally, Grégorini or Lloris, does it matter?
It’s a victorious Nice team that enters the pitches, and it’s this team that once again thrills everyone, from the stands of the Ray hill to the virtual pages of its website.
And you, are you more of a Grégoriniste or a Llorisien?
