György G. Ráth has been appointed Music Director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra for a period of 3 years, succeeding Philippe Auguin, who was the Music Director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra from 2010 to 2016.

His term will be effective as of September 1, 2017.

The Nice audience will have the opportunity to discover him on the stage of the Opéra Nice Côte d’Azur during the concert on April 21 and 22, as he will be conducting the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra as a guest conductor on this occasion.

György G. Ráth is one of those rare conductors who is equally knowledgeable in the world of opera, oratorio, and symphonic music. His extensive repertoire covers all classical music, from Bach to Bartók, including the operas of Mozart, and works by Verdi and Puccini, up to those by Janaček.

Born in Budapest in 1961, he was a student of Ervin Lukàcs at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest where he graduated, and he further refined his skills with Franco Ferrara at the Chigiana Academy in Siena, before moving to Tanglewood where he collaborated with Leonard Bernstein.
