Starting this Monday, February 21, and lasting until March 27, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is initiating a public consultation regarding the Haliotis 2 wastewater treatment plant.
Currently, the Haliotis wastewater treatment plant in Nice processes a large portion of the wastewater from the metropolis’ territory, spanning from the left bank of the Var River to Cap d’Ail.
The metropolis aims to embark on a project to create a new Haliotis 2 complex, and it is precisely this that is the subject of the public consultation.
Among the reasons for this project, the metropolis cites the current Haliotis complex, which, while meeting current regulations, has a number of facilities nearing the end of their lifespan. This project also considers the population increase in the affected areas and, consequently, the rise in the volume of water to be treated.
The metropolis also plans for “energy sobriety” by reducing consumption—this project being part of the climate plan acceleration program. It will also lead to significant biomethane production, which can support the decarbonization of transport.
Finally, the treated wastewater will be reused, and micropollutants will also be addressed.
