Halloween is approaching, and the streets of Nice are preparing for the festivities. To ensure a celebration without incident, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Hugues Moutouh, has announced a series of temporary measures that come into effect today and remain until November 2.
Dressing up as scary characters and going door-to-door asking for candy. That’s what many children (and some big kids) will do this Thursday evening for Halloween. It’s an opportunity to gather with friends or family, participate in costume parties, and decorate the house with pumpkins and autumn elements. To ensure a successful celebration, the Prefecture of Alpes-Maritimes reminds everyone of essential rules to avoid any problems.
On October 30 and 31, the distribution, sale, and purchase of fuels, flammable gases, and other combustibles in portable containers are prohibited. This restriction applies to everyone, except in cases of necessity duly justified and verified by the police or gendarmerie. Gas stations will also need to organize to enforce this rule.
Limited Use of Pyrotechnics
The sale and use of F3 and F4 category pyrotechnics, theater pyrotechnic articles (category P2), and other category T2 pyrotechnics are prohibited. These measures cover all commercial transactions of these products until November 2 inclusive.
Furthermore, even for lower category pyrotechnic articles, their use is strictly limited. They cannot be used on public roads or near buildings. Only fireworks organized for shows authorized by municipalities are allowed.
Enhanced Controls and Increased Vigilance
Law enforcement –national police, gendarmerie, and municipal police– will be mobilized to ensure compliance with these measures. Given the Vigipirate alert level (Emergency Attack B), the prefect also advises citizens to use discretion when choosing their costumes. Avoid fake weapon replicas that could cause panic situations.
These measures are in place to allow everyone to enjoy Halloween with peace of mind.
