Handball: Cavigal Punished in Grenoble

Latest News

On the occasion of the 6th day of Nationale 1, Cavigal Handball traveled to Isère to face Grenoble. A team in good form at the start of the season that posed significant problems for the team from Nice.

A week after suffering their first defeat of the season, the Cavigal players were back on the field. Weakened by several absences due to injuries, the team from Nice expected a difficult task against the leader of pool 4, Grenoble.

However, Cyril Parmentelot’s men stood up to their opponents. In goal, Eden Speno compensated for the absence of Maxime Aicardi, making nine saves in the first half. The Nice goalkeeper (11 saves) effectively supported his defense, even allowing his team to come back in the score. Thanks to three consecutive saves when the Azuréens were trailing by three goals, Nils Jean-Zephirin and Kristian Vassilev (7 goals) enabled the Maralpins to go into the break just one goal behind the Isère team (16-15).

A Fatal Lapse for Cavigal

All hopes were still alive in the second half, notably thanks to Kristian Vassilev. However, his teammates experienced a lapse after a goal by Romain Boveron (6 goals), failing to hit the target for more than 12 minutes! Grenoble took advantage of this to impose an 8-0 on the visitors. Despite a change of goalkeeper, nothing helped. Although Kristian Vassilev attempted to reignite his team at the end of the match, the damage was already done. The red and black did not manage to make a comeback in a match that they had controlled for nearly 45 minutes.

The final score is harsh (37-26) but logical. In the standings, Cavigal lets their opponent of the evening go ahead. They will need to recover next week at home against the MHB reserve team! See you Sunday at 4 PM at the Pasteur gymnasium.
