For the 17th day of the championship, Cavigal hosted Guilherand-Granges at the Pasteur gymnasium. First in the standings of pool 6 of the Nationale 2, the team from Nice was facing the third-placed team this evening.
A few seconds were enough for Guilherand to open the score. In less than a minute of play, the visitors were already leading (0-2). The team from Nice faced a solid attack that kept scoring goals. After five minutes of play, Cavigal was trailing by two goals (3-5). But Romain Boveron scored two consecutive goals to allow Nice to take the lead for the first time in this match. Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for Granges to get back ahead.
Lacking efficiency in attack with many missed opportunities, Cavigal relied on its captain Alexis Bon to avoid falling apart in the first half. The frustration led to some scuffles in the stands, but tensions quickly calmed down. Lucky and backed by their goalkeeper, Rajkovic Marko, Guilherand managed to widen the gap. At halftime, the score was (17-21).
An Exceptional Comeback
The second half started significantly better for Cavigal. After 10 minutes of play in this period, the red and black team had closed part of the gap (21-24). Once again, Alexis Bon performed miracles. He intercepted a pass to go alone on a counterattack and scored the equalizing goal 24-24. Immediately afterward, Kelian Bique scored to take the lead (26-25).
Once they took the lead, they never let it go. Brimming with confidence, Cavigal even widened the gap. With less than five minutes left in the game, the club was leading 32-28. The team demonstrated impressive resilience to secure the win in the second half. The players adjusted their aim in attack, which allowed them to win the match (34-30).
With this victory, Cavigal remains at the top of the standings.
