For the fifth matchday of the Nationale 1 championship, Cavigal traveled to Annecy. Against CSAV, the Nice team did not maintain their undefeated status.
Two weeks after receiving Annecy handball, Cavigal went to Haute-Savoie to face CSAV Annecy. Undefeated in the championship at the start of the season, the Nice team positioned themselves as serious contenders for the top spots.
To continue their impressive unbeaten streak, the Maralpins could rely on their key players. Firstly, their goalkeeper Maxime Aicardi. Highly notable at the start of this season, he had an excellent first half. With nine saves (11 in the entire match) in the first thirty minutes, he frustrated the Haute-Savoie attacks. Added to this was the stellar performance of the league’s top scorer Florian Graglia (6 goals in the first half โ 8 in total), and Cavigal was well ahead at halftime (11-17).
Though Nice had a lead of up to nine goals, Annecy managed to catch up in the second half. The entry of their goalkeeper Tom Omnes allowed CSAV to get back into the game. Coupled with the appearance of Simon Mayayo, Cavigal’s lead melted away like snow in the sun. The Azurรฉens stayed in contact until the 57th minute. Cyril Parmentelot’s players took all the risks. Without success.
CSAV won (29-25) and handed Nice their first defeat of the season. A regrettable setback given the dynamics of the match. However, there are no consequences in the standings, as Cavigal remains at the top of pool 4.
The next rendezvous is next Saturday on the field of Cavigalโs closest competitor in the standings, Grenoble. This match could provide more clarity on the red and black team’s abilities to go far in the championship this season.
