Handball: Nice gets back to winning ways

Latest News

For the 6th day of the LFH Championship, Sébastien Gardillou’s girls triumphed 30 – 27 against Nantes-Loire Atlantique at the Sports Hall. After the setback against Toulon in the last home game, the Nice team had to find their way back to victory.

As the whistle blew, the Nice public held their breath throughout the first half. One up that brings relief, a tie a few seconds later, one down that worries, another tie—the scoreboard did not exceed a two-point difference in 30 minutes.

However, the “clean” play of OGC Nice, both defensively and offensively, leaves much hope for the rest of the match. The end of the first half was marked by a crucial goal from captain Alexandra Lacrabère, giving her team the lead (14-13).

The second half was eerily similar to the first. Both teams chased the lead, but neither managed to hold onto it.

In the 48th minute, however, the Nice team seemed determined to win: one, two, three goals ahead (27-24) with 8 minutes to hold the advantage. But the Nantes team had not said their last word. A goal from Marchal, a penalty induced by former Nice teammate Escribano, and a scoreline of 27-26 with 6 minutes and 30 seconds left to play.

Nonetheless, the Aiglonnes retained the lead and concluded the game with a 30-27 victory, thanks notably to two decisive saves by Chatellet.

For the 7th day of the championship, OGC Nice will travel to Metz this Saturday, October 3rd.
