At the end of a closely contested match, neither team was able to secure a victory. Final score: a draw (26-26) which benefits neither Nice nor Besançon.
26-25 was the score in favor of the Nice team with 20 seconds remaining. The home team at the Charles Ehrmann center thought they had secured their 4th win. That was until Besançon’s winger equalized … with 13 seconds remaining. It was a disappointment for the Aiglonnes, who still remain unbeaten at home.
A draw that feels like a defeat. The home team led (almost) the entire match. The halftime score favored Nice 14 to 10. They were even leading by 6 goals with 25 minutes to go. But Besançon gradually closed the gap to clinch an important point.
With a very good start to the season (3 wins and 1 loss), hosting Besançon would have allowed the red and black team to enter the top 3. No change in the standings after this draw; OGC Nice remains 5th, just behind today’s opponent.
Next outing is next Saturday against the league leader, Brest. The task looks challenging for the Aiglonnes.
