Tonight, the Nice handball players won on the Nantes field (17-20) in a crucial match in the race for the playoffs.
Against their direct competitor for the 6th and final qualifying spot for the final phases, Nice showed a great deal of composure and control.
Despite the stakes of this encounter, the Nice team started the game perfectly. After leading throughout the first half, they couldn’t pull ahead before the break. (10-10 at halftime)
But right after returning from the locker room, supported by an unbeatable Cléopatre Darleux (15 saves in total) and a stellar Karen Knustdottir (8 goals), OGC took control of the match and never let go.
In the end, Sébastien Gardillou’s team won 20 to 17 without flinching and kept their destiny in their own hands before the last 3 challenging games.
With one less match to play (Editor’s note: Nice will be exempt for the last day) and 2 perilous duels against Metz (1st) and in Besançon (5th), the end of the season will be anything but a walk in the park.
Every point will be worth its weight in gold, and the 3-point lead obtained tonight over Nantes should not be too much to clinch the 6th place.
